Civil Leading Hand / Excavator Operator
Lead from the Front. Build Quality Projects.
We're looking for an experienced Civil Leading Hand / Excavator Operator to join our team, delivering noise barrier wall projects across Greater Sydney, Wollongong and, from time to time, regional NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys working alongside their crew while taking responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of site activities. You'll lead a small team, operate machinery, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a small onsite crew.
- Operate excavators, including auger drilling where required.
- Read and interpret construction plans and drawings.
- Understand and calculate RL levels from design plans.
- Set out works and pile hole centres from survey pegs.
- Drill pier holes and install steel posts to the correct spacing, alignment, level and verticality.
- Coordinate concreting, installation of noise wall panels and finishing works, including spray painting.
- Manage subcontractors, deliveries and site logistics.
- Maintain high standards of WHS, environmental compliance and quality.
- Conduct daily pre-start meetings and site inductions.
- Prepare weekly work plans and complete daily site reports.
- Submit delivery dockets and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Liaise with the Project Manager and client representatives regarding progress, delays and site requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven experience in civil construction (structural landscaping or commercial construction experience will also be considered).
- Previous experience leading a small site crew.
- Excavator operating experience, with auger drilling experience highly regarded.
- A strong understanding of construction drawings, set-out and RL levels.
- Concreting experience.
- Piling experience (highly regarded).
- A truck licence (desirable).
- A trade qualification (preferred).
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and productivity.
- High levels of reliability, integrity and attention to detail.
- A current driver's licence and reliable vehicle.
