Position: Machinist – Manual Component Modifications

Location: South Nowra

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team and support specialised component modification work for a range of clients. This hands-on role involves using manual lathes and milling machines to produce high-quality, custom-modified components. The successful candidate will have a strong trade background, precision machining skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate manual lathes, milling machines, and other hand-operated machinery to modify components to precise specifications.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, client instructions, and modification requirements accurately.
  • Measure and inspect parts throughout the machining process to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organised workshop practices at all times.
  • Work efficiently to meet production schedules and daily targets.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and support a team-oriented environment.
  • Follow company policies and procedures to ensure consistency and safety.
  • Ensure all work meets high-quality standards to avoid client dissatisfaction.

Skills & Experience

  • Trade background in Fitting & Turning, Machining, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience operating manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Experience modifying components, not just basic machining.
  • Ability to work independently with precision and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to accommodate workload fluctuations and varying client demands.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a positive, reliable attitude.

Desirable:

  • Toolmaking or CNC machining experience (manual machining experience essential).
  • Welding experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
